Drift Racer is a free online drift game that runs in the browser with no download and no account. There is no race here: the clock counts down, the circuit loops, and the only thing that scores is the angle between where your car is pointing and where it is actually going. More angle and more speed both pay, and a chain multiplier climbs a step for every couple of seconds the slide stays unbroken, up to five times. Straighten up and the chain banks; spin past the limit and it is gone along with your speed, plus a second of sitting still. That tension is the whole game — the biggest score comes from releasing a drift one moment before it would have bitten. The handbrake is how you break traction on purpose, the teal band on the gauge shows the angle that actually pays, and eight circuits tighten from a three-corner dock loop to a seven-corner mountain touge.

How to play Drift Racer

  1. Hold GAS to drive and the arrows to steer. Nothing scores while the car is going where it is pointing.
  2. Pull HAND — the handbrake — going into a corner. It cuts grip, so the tail comes round and the car starts travelling at an angle to its nose.
  3. That angle is your score. The gauge along the bottom shows it: the teal part of the band is the range that pays, and the far end of the band is a spin.
  4. Speed pays too. A wide slow slide scores less than the same angle carried at pace, which is why the throttle usually stays down through a drift.
  5. The multiplier at the top of the screen climbs a step for every couple of seconds the slide holds, to a maximum of five times.
  6. Straightening up on purpose banks the chain safely. Spinning loses it, drops your speed and costs a second of sitting still.
  7. Putting a wheel on the dirt also breaks the chain, and the grip out there is almost nothing, so a slide that runs wide ends badly.
  8. Beat the target before the clock runs out to unlock the next circuit. Half again the target is worth three stars.

Tips

  • Initiate before the corner, not in it. The tail takes about half a second to come round, so the handbrake goes on while the car is still on the straight.
  • Steer into the slide once it starts. Countersteering is what holds an angle steady — hold the handbrake down all the way through and the angle just keeps growing into a spin.
  • Bank a big chain rather than gambling it. A five-times chain released cleanly is worth far more than the same chain lost to a spin two seconds later.
  • The pay band is wide but the top of it is expensive. About two thirds of full lock is the best trade between points per second and the risk of going round.
  • Link the corners. On the tighter circuits the exit of one corner sets you up sideways for the entry of the next, and an unbroken chain across two corners is where the big numbers are.
  • Slip costs speed, so a permanent maximum-angle drift slows you into scoring almost nothing. Let the car straighten a little to build pace back up, then load it again.
  • New Circuit generates a different layout at the same difficulty; Restart Run repeats the same one, which is what you want while you learn where its corners link.

FAQ

Is Drift Racer free to play?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no sign-up and nothing to buy. All eight circuits are included and unlock as you beat their targets.

How do the points work?

Points accrue continuously while the car is sideways, at a rate set by how much angle you are holding and how fast you are going, multiplied by the chain. Nothing scores below a small minimum angle, and nothing scores off the tarmac.

How do I start a drift?

Hold the handbrake as you turn in. It cuts the lateral grip that normally drags the car back straight, so the tail steps out. Once the angle is there, ease off the handbrake and hold the slide with steering.

Why did I spin?

The angle went past the limit at the far end of the gauge. Usually that is the handbrake held on too long, or steering further into a slide that was already deep. Past that point the car comes round, the chain is lost and you sit still for about a second.

Should I ever straighten up on purpose?

Yes, and it is the single most useful habit here. Straightening banks whatever the chain has earned, while a spin throws it away — so releasing a big drift a moment early is nearly always the right call.

Is there a lap time or anyone to race?

Neither. The circuit loops and the clock counts down, and the only measure is the score. That is what separates this from the other racing games here, which are about getting somewhere first.

Is the circuit the same every time?

Restart Run gives you the identical circuit so you can learn where the corners link up. New Circuit generates a different layout with the same corner count, width and target.

Does Drift Racer work on a phone?

Yes. The four pads sit across the bottom of the screen, the whole circuit is always in frame so you can see the corner you are aiming at, and the slide gauge sits above your thumbs.
