Mad Car Drive is a free online physics driving game that runs in the browser with no download and no sign-up. There is one control: hold to drive, release to coast. On the ground the car follows the terrain and its body pitches with the slope; in the air it keeps whatever pitch and rotation it left the ramp with, and lands on its roof if that does not match the ground. So flat out is never the answer — every course here flips a car driven with the pedal held down, and every one of them can be finished by lifting off in the right places.

How to play Mad Car Drive

  1. Hold the pad, the space bar or the right arrow to drive. Let go and the car coasts.
  2. On the ground the car sticks to the terrain and tilts with it. Gravity helps you downhill and fights you uphill.
  3. At the top of a ramp the car leaves the ground, keeping the pitch it launched at and picking up rotation.
  4. There is no steering and no leaning in the air. Everything about the landing was decided before the wheels left the ground.
  5. A landing more than about sixty degrees away from the slope you land on ends the run on the roof.
  6. Coasting is free but a hill still needs power — a car that stops on a climb is finished too.
  7. Reach the chequered line to clear the course. Doing it close to par time earns all three stars.

Tips

  • Lift off well before the ramp, not on it. The car carries its speed up the face, so the throttle that matters was the one you were holding two seconds ago.
  • The rotation you pick up grows with launch speed, so a slower launch is a flatter landing. If you keep landing nose-high, arrive slower rather than trying to fix it in the air.
  • A downslope landing is far more forgiving than a flat one, because the ground is already tilted towards the nose-down attitude you are in.
  • Get back on the pedal the moment you land. Coasting is only useful for setting up a launch; everywhere else it is time.
  • When a course has two ramps close together, plan the second one first. The speed you land the first jump with is the speed you take into the second.
  • Every course was checked by a search over simple pedal plans — full, lift, resume — with at most four changes. If you find yourself feathering, there is a simpler answer.
  • Par time comes from that same plan, so three stars is asking for the search’s route driven cleanly, not for something faster than the design allows.

FAQ

Is Mad Car Drive free to play?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no account and nothing to buy. All eight courses are here and they unlock as you clear them.

Why does the car flip when I hold the pedal down?

Because the rotation the ramp gives the car grows with launch speed. Flat out means you leave the ramp fast and keep turning all the way through the flight, so you land nose-high. Every course in the game flips a flat-out car — that is checked by the test suite.

Can I steer or lean while I am in the air?

No, deliberately. That is what separates this from the trials-style bike game here: the landing is entirely a consequence of the launch, so the decision happens before the ramp rather than during the jump.

Is every course definitely finishable?

Yes. Each one was put through a search over simple pedal plans — hold, lift at a metre mark, resume — and the plan it found is stored with the course and replayed by the tests. A course needing more than four pedal changes does not ship.

What ends a run apart from flipping?

Stopping. If the car runs out of momentum on a climb, the run is over. So coasting is not a free safety option; it is a tool for setting up a jump.

How is this different from Off-Road Truck here?

Off-Road Truck is about not shaking the cargo off the back, so it punishes hard landings by taking your score. Here there is no cargo — a bad landing simply ends the run, and the whole skill is the launch that preceded it.

Does Mad Car Drive work on a phone?

Yes. It is one hold pad across the bottom of the screen, and the course is drawn wide enough to see the next ramp coming.
