How to play Mahjong Rush

- Tap one free tile, then its twin, and both clear. Tapping a different tile instead simply moves your selection.
- The bar under the header is the clock. It runs down continuously and turns red in the last quarter.
- Every pair adds seconds back. Take a second pair within a couple of seconds and the chain counter climbs, and each step of the chain adds a little more.
- The chain bonus is capped, so a long chain cannot outrun the clock forever — it buys you breathing room, not immortality.
- Clear the whole board to win the level. Run the clock out and the run ends where it stands.
- Hint highlights a legal pair. Shuffle redeals the tiles still on the board if you have run out of moves — both are free but both cost you time while you use them.
- Every board is generated by clearing it first, so there is always a way through, and the shuffle produces a board that is solvable again rather than a random one.
Tips
- Take the pair you can see, not the best pair. Ten seconds spent finding an ideal move costs more than the move was worth.
- Work the top layer down. Tiles up there unlock several beneath them, and a board opens up much faster than it looks like it will.
- Keep one easy pair in reserve. If you can see a match that will still be there in five seconds, leave it — it is what restarts a broken chain.
- The chain window is short and gets shorter. On the last boards it is under two seconds, so the chain is really a measure of whether you are hesitating.
- Matching from the ends of a row is nearly always safe. The middle of a full row is blocked on both sides and cannot be taken at all.
- Shuffle early rather than late. Hunting for a move that is not there burns the clock faster than the shuffle would have.
- If a board keeps beating you, play it once with no regard for the clock to learn its shape. The layout is the same every time until you press New Board.
