Fold and Fit is a free online folding puzzle that runs in the browser with no download and no account. The strip is a row of equal segments joined by hinges, and each hinge can be set straight, left or right. From those settings the strip traces a path across a grid: the first segment always points right, and every one after it goes wherever the creases before it have turned. The puzzle is an outline, and you have solved it when the strip fills exactly those cells — nothing missing, nothing spare, and no segment doubled back onto another, which is drawn in red the moment it happens. Every outline is guaranteed foldable because it was made by folding a strip in the first place, so the answer is remembered rather than searched for. Eight shapes run from a six-segment strip with half its creases already set to a thirteen-segment strip handed to you completely flat.
How to play Fold and Fit
- The pale outline is the shape to fill. The amber blocks are your strip, one block per segment.
- Tap a numbered hinge to cycle it: straight, then right, then left, then straight again.
- Changing a hinge re-folds everything after it, so the creases near the start move the most.
- The first segment always points right. That is fixed on purpose — otherwise every answer would exist in four rotations.
- If the strip doubles back onto itself the overlapping segments turn red. An overlap can never match an outline, because an outline has exactly one cell per segment.
- You win when the strip covers exactly the outline: nothing outside it and no cell of it empty.
- Point at a crease highlights one hinge that is set differently from a folding that fits, if you want a nudge.
- Par is the number of hinges that genuinely have to change from the starting position. Solving in par is three stars.
Tips
- Work from the first hinge forward. Every crease moves everything after it, so settling the early ones first stops you re-solving the same tail over and over.
- Count the corners in the outline. Each corner is exactly one non-straight hinge, so the number of turns you need is visible before you touch anything.
- Match the long straight runs first. A run of four cells in the outline means three straight hinges in a row, and that usually pins where the turns have to be.
- A red overlap is information. It tells you the previous crease turned the wrong way, not that the shape is impossible.
- Flatten it out is quicker than undoing. When a folding has gone badly wrong, resetting to straight and rebuilding usually costs fewer creases than unpicking.
- On the later shapes the strip starts completely flat, so read the outline before you begin: the fold is fully determined by it up to a mirror.
- Same Shape Again keeps the outline so you can hunt for par; New Shape folds a different one at the same length.

Is every shape actually foldable?
Yes, and by construction rather than by hope. Each outline is produced by folding a strip at random and keeping the result, so a valid folding is remembered before you ever see the puzzle.
Why did some segments turn red?
Because the strip has folded onto itself and two segments are sharing a cell. That can never fill an outline, since an outline has one cell per segment, so it is always something to undo.
Why does changing one hinge move so much of the strip?
Because a hinge turns everything after it. That is what makes the early creases the important ones, and it is why the puzzle rewards working forward from the start rather than nudging the far end.
Can the strip be rotated?
No. The first segment always points right, which fixes the orientation. Without that every answer would have four identical rotations and the puzzle would feel looser than it is.
What is par?
The number of hinges that actually differ between the starting position and a folding that fits. Solving in that many creases is three stars; twice that is two.
How is this different from the other puzzles here?
Most grid puzzles ask you to fill cells one at a time. Here you have a single connected strip and the only controls are its creases, so every move changes a whole tail of the shape at once.
