Tap Chain: Number Blitz

Puzzle

Tap any tile on a fully-packed 5x5 grid to bump its number up by one — every touching tile of the same number (straight or diagonal, in one connected blob) vanishes for points and your tile jumps up one more on top, gravity drops the tiles above into the gap, and fresh tiles fall in from the top. Switch freely between Timed, Infinite, and Rush.

Tap Chain: Number Blitz is a free online number-matching arcade game you can play instantly in your browser, no download or account needed. The board starts completely full — tap any tile to add 1 to it, and every tile touching it (straight or diagonal) that now shares that number joins one connected group, plus any further tile touching those, and so on out through the whole blob. Once that group is 3 tiles or more, every tile in it except the one you tapped vanishes and scores points, while the tile you tapped jumps up one more on top of its tap increment, ending one higher than the group it just cleared. Whatever was sitting above each cleared tile drops straight down to fill the gap, and fresh new tiles fall in from the top to keep every column full — and if those falling tiles happen to complete a further match on their own, that clears automatically too, chaining into a cascade that keeps paying out and refueling your run without another tap. Bigger connects and higher numbers pay out more, so holding off a small match for a wider one is a real risk-reward call, and a soft glow marks any tile that would clear right now so you are never stuck hunting the board. Timed, Infinite, and Rush are three tabs on the very same board, not three separate games to pick between — switch anytime and a fresh run starts instantly in that mode, with your best score for each one saved separately. Timed gives you 60 seconds and 5 taps with an extra tap refunded per clear (including every step of a cascade), Infinite drops the clock but keeps the same 5-tap budget, and Rush hands you unlimited taps against a hard 10-second countdown that only clears can refill. Once a number climbs past the 5-color palette a small tier badge keeps it visually distinct instead of just looking identical to a smaller one.

How to play Tap Chain: Number Blitz

  1. The 5x5 grid starts completely full. Tap any tile to increase its number by 1.
  2. Every tile touching it — up, down, left, right, or diagonally — that now shares its new number joins one connected group, and that spreads out through any further tiles touching those, and so on through the whole connected blob of matching tiles.
  3. Once that group has 3 or more tiles, every tile in it clears and adds to your score — except the tile you tapped, which never clears.
  4. Instead, the tapped tile gets a second, bonus +1 on top of its tap increment, so it ends up one higher than the group it just matched (tap a 3 that joins two other connected 3s, and it becomes a 5, not a 4).
  5. Whatever tile was sitting above each cleared tile falls straight down to close the gap, and a brand new tile drops in from the top of that column to keep it full.
  6. If those falling tiles happen to complete another 3+ group on their own, that clears automatically too — no extra tap needed — chaining into a cascade that keeps paying out until the board settles.
  7. Bigger connects and higher numbers pay out more points, so holding off a small match for a wider one is a real risk-reward call.
  8. Chain clears on consecutive taps with no miss in between to build a combo streak for bonus points, on top of anything a cascade already paid out.
  9. Timed, Infinite, and Rush are tabs on the same screen, not separate games to choose between up front — tap a tab anytime to start a fresh run in that mode.
  10. In Timed mode you have 60 seconds and 5 taps to spend, and in Infinite mode there is no clock at all — either way, every clear (including each step of a cascade) refunds 1 extra tap.
  11. In Rush mode taps are unlimited but a 10-second countdown is always running; every clear adds 1 second back, capped at the starting 10 seconds.
  12. The run ends when your taps or your time hit zero, whichever limit your mode uses — keep clearing fast enough to keep the run alive.

Tips

  • Watch for the soft glowing pulse on tiles — it marks a tile that would clear right now if you tapped it, so you never have to mentally simulate a tap on every candidate yourself.
  • Matches connect diagonally too, not just straight lines — a tile touching a corner of another matching tile is part of the same group, so scan in all 8 directions, not just up/down/left/right.
  • A single tap can chain into several clears in a row if the falling tiles happen to line up — treat every tap as a chance for a cascade, not just one clear.
  • Landing a clear jumps your tapped tile up two full steps (the tap plus the merge bonus) — tapping into a match is the fastest way to grow a big number in one move.
  • A wider connected group pays a growing bonus per tile, so in Infinite mode it can be worth waiting for a bigger blob instead of clearing the first small match you see.
  • Gravity only pulls tiles straight down within a column — plan around what is stacked above a cell you are about to clear, since that is exactly what drops into its place.
  • In Rush mode, prioritize the fastest available clear over the biggest one — a missed tap costs you a full second you cannot get back once the timer bottoms out.
  • Once a number climbs past 5 its color starts repeating from the palette — check the small tier badge in the corner of a tile if two colors ever look too close to call.

FAQ

Is Tap Chain: Number Blitz free to play?

Yes. It is a free number-matching game in your browser with no download, no account, and no in-game purchases.

What are the rules?

The board is always full — tap a tile to add 1 to its current number. Every tile touching it in any direction, including diagonally, that shares that number joins one connected group, spreading through the whole touching blob of matching tiles. Once that group is 3 or more, they all clear and score points except the tapped tile, which gets a second bonus +1 instead, ending one higher than the group it just matched; the tiles above each cleared one fall down and the column refills from the top, and if that refill completes another match it clears automatically too, chaining into a cascade.

What is the difference between Timed, Infinite, and Rush mode?

They are three tabs on the same board, not separate games — switch anytime to start a fresh run. Timed gives you 60 seconds and 5 taps, with +1 tap per clear. Infinite drops the clock entirely and just tracks 5 taps, also +1 per clear. Rush strips away the tap limit but runs a hard 10-second countdown that only clears can refill, capped at 10 seconds.

Does Tap Chain: Number Blitz work on mobile?

Yes — every tile responds to a tap or click, so it plays identically on phones, tablets, and desktop with no extra controls needed.
