Blob Chain Drop is a free falling blob puzzle game online. Pairs of coloured blobs drop into a well six wide and twelve deep; slide and turn each pair as it falls, and when four or more of one colour touch across or down they pop. Whatever sat on top falls, and if the fall makes another group of four, that pops too — a chain, and every step of a chain is worth more than the one before (the first few double), so the skill is stacking colours on colours and setting the whole thing off from the bottom. Ten levels add a fourth and fifth colour and a storm cloud that loads grey stones into a tray every few pairs: pop something in time and the points wash them out, wait and they land on your stack. Each level is a fixed run of pairs with a target score, and three stars means chaining like a player who builds four-step chains. Every run is dealt from a seed, so Play again is the same pairs. No download, no sign-up — play with a keyboard or the on-screen pads on a phone.
How to play Blob Chain Drop
- Pick a level and press Start. A pair of blobs enters the top of the well, and the next two pairs are shown in the preview beside it (above it on a phone).
- Move the pair with ← and → (or A and D), turn it with ↑ or X, and turn it back with Z. On a phone, use the pads under the well, or tap the well to turn.
- Hold ↓ to drop faster, or press Space to drop the pair straight to where the faint ghost shows it will land. A pair lying over a gap splits, and each blob falls on its own.
- Four or more blobs of one colour touching across or down pop. Blobs above them fall, and if that makes another group of four, it pops too — that is a chain.
- Each level is a fixed number of pairs. Finish them with the target score and the level is cleared; two higher scores earn the second and third star.
- On stormy levels a cloud loads grey stones into its tray every few pairs and lights a three-pair fuse. Pop something to wash stones out, 70 points each; otherwise the tray tips onto the well.
- Keep the third column low. A blob in its top cell, where every pair enters, ends the run.
Tips
- Do not pop every group of four the moment you can. Three of a colour with a different colour stacked on top is a chain waiting for its trigger.
- Build from one side and set it off from the bottom. A chain is a staircase: each pop drops the next colour down onto three of its own.
- Turn a standing pair in a one-wide gap and it flips end over end instead — the quick way to swap its two colours in place.
- Watch both waiting pairs. Knowing the colour two pairs ahead is what lets you leave a trigger open instead of covering it.
- On a stormy level, check the fuse. If a chain is ready when the tray is about to tip, fire it: the points wash stones out before they land.
- Stones break when a group pops next to them, so a pop along the top of a buried stone row clears the way for the colours under it.
- Emptying the well completely is worth a 2,100-point bonus.
FAQ
Is Blob Chain Drop free to play?
Yes. It runs free in your browser with no download, no install and no account, on a computer, a tablet or a phone.
How do blobs pop?
Four or more blobs of one colour touching across or down — not diagonally — pop together. The row hidden just above the top of the well never pops, and grey stones never pop on their own; a stone breaks when a group pops right next to it.
How do chains score?
Each pop scores 10 points per blob times a multiplier. For a plain pop of four the multiplier is 1; on the second step of a chain it is 8, then 16, 32, 64, 96 and up, plus bonuses for bigger groups and for popping several colours at once. So four blobs are worth 40 points on their own and 1,280 as the fourth step of a chain.
What are the grey stones?
On level 3 and every level after it except level 5, a storm cloud loads a batch of stones into its tray every few pairs and lights a fuse three pairs long. Once the fuse is out, the tray tips onto the well after the first pair that pops nothing. Every 70 points you score washes one stone out of the tray first, so a chain fired in time stops the stones ever landing.
How are the stars decided?
Clearing a level — surviving every pair with the target score — is one star; two and three stars are higher scores shown on screen. They were measured with test players: one that holds out for chains of four earns three stars on between a quarter and three-quarters of its runs, depending on the level, and one that pops every group as soon as it can almost never earns even two.
How many levels are there?
Ten. They start with three colours and no storm, add a fourth colour on level 2, stones on level 3 and every level after it except the calm level 5, and a fifth colour on levels 5, 7 and 10, while the pairs fall a little faster each level.
Does Play again give me the same pairs?
Yes. Every run is dealt from a seed, so Play again and Try again drop the same pairs in the same order and the stones land in the same columns. New pairs deals a different run of the same level.
Is this like Puyo Puyo?
It plays the same falling-pair, four-to-pop chain rules as that classic, as a single-player game of fixed runs with a target score and a storm that sends stones instead of a rival. It is an independent game, not affiliated with Sega.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. The pads under the well move, turn and drop the pair — hold ← or → to keep sliding — and a tap on the well turns it. The well is tall, so the game plays upright on a phone.
