Tap the Target is a free online tapping game built on one rule: keep the streak alive. Bullseyes pop up at random on a night-blue field, each with a ring that runs down around it. Tap one fast and it pays more; tap five in a row and your combo climbs to ×2, then on up to ×5. Miss one, tap empty space or hit a red decoy and the combo drops back to ×1. Twelve 30-second stages add drifting targets, decoys, gold targets that add time, two-tap shells and splitters that burst in two. Play with a finger, a mouse or the keyboard — no download, no sign-up.

How to play Tap the Target

  1. Pick a stage and tap the field to start. The 30-second clock begins and the first target pops up a moment later.
  2. Tap a target before the ring around it runs out. Every target pays its points plus a speed bonus of up to 10 — the sooner you tap, the more it is worth.
  3. Keep the streak going. Five good hits in a row raise the combo to ×2, ten to ×3, fifteen to ×4 and twenty to ×5, and every hit is multiplied by it.
  4. Do not break it. Letting a target run out, tapping empty space or tapping a red decoy with a cross drops the combo straight back to ×1. A decoy also takes 2 seconds off the clock.
  5. Later stages add new targets one at a time: blue-ringed drifters that slide and bounce, red decoys, gold targets that add 2 seconds, grey shells that need two taps, and teal splitters that burst into two small shards.
  6. When the clock runs out your score is counted. Reach the stage’s first mark to clear it and unlock the next one; the second and third marks earn more stars.
  7. On a keyboard: the arrow keys move a crosshair (Shift moves it faster), Space taps, and P or Enter pauses. Switching tabs pauses the round too.

Tips

  • The combo is worth far more than speed. A ×5 hit pays five times a ×1 hit, while a quick tap only adds up to 10 — a sure tap beats a rushed one that misses.
  • With two or more targets up, take the one whose ring is shortest first. The others will still be there.
  • Tap near the middle. A tap just outside a target’s edge still counts, but a tap on nothing ends your streak.
  • Lead a drifter: tap a little ahead of it in the direction it is sliding, and remember it bounces off the edges.
  • Leave decoys alone even when they sit right beside a target. Letting a decoy run out costs nothing.
  • Gold is a bonus, not a must. It pays 40 and adds 2 seconds, and a gold that runs out does not break the streak — so take it only when it is close.
  • A splitter bursts into two shards that fly apart. Tap one, then the other straight away: each shard that runs out breaks the streak.

FAQ

Is Tap the Target free to play?

Yes. Tap the Target is free to play online in your browser, with no download, no account and nothing to buy. All twelve stages are here and unlock in order.

How does the combo work?

Every good hit adds one to your streak. Five in a row make ×2, ten ×3, fifteen ×4 and twenty ×5, and the multiplier applies to every hit. Letting a target run out, tapping where there is no target or tapping a red decoy resets the streak and the combo goes back to ×1.

How are points worked out?

A plain target is worth 10, a drifter 15, a shell 20 and a gold target 40, plus a speed bonus of up to 10 that runs down with the ring, all times the combo. A plain target tapped the moment it appears at ×5 pays 100.

How are the star scores set?

They are measured, not guessed. Three simulated players with realistic reaction times, finger movement and aim — a casual, a regular and a sharp one — play every stage 41 times. One star is the score four in five casual players reach, two stars is the regular player’s middle score and three stars the sharp player’s.

What do the different targets do?

Red-and-white targets stay put. Blue-ringed drifters slide and bounce off the edges. Red decoys with a cross must be left alone. Gold targets add 2 seconds. Grey shells take two taps, and teal splitters burst into two small shards that you then tap as well.

Is the game the same whatever my screen’s frame rate?

Yes. The round runs on a fixed clock of 120 steps a second, whatever your screen draws, so a 60 Hz phone and a 144 Hz monitor play exactly the same round. Switching to another tab pauses it.

How is Tap the Target different from Aim Trainer and Whack-a-Mole?

Aim Trainer rewards hitting the dead centre and Whack-a-Mole has moles in fixed holes. Tap the Target is built around the streak: targets appear anywhere, and the combo you build by never missing is where the big scores come from.

Does Tap the Target work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap with your finger — every touch counts the instant it lands, so quick taps with two fingers work too. The square field fits a phone held either way up.
