Monster Truck is a free online monster truck racing game that runs in your browser with no download and no sign-up. You drive an orange, flame-painted truck on six-foot tyres against three rival trucks — Rust Bucket, Mud Dog and Iron Hog — across eight stadium arenas, from a warm-up Dirt Oval with 7 cars to the Monster Finale with 34 of them stacked up to three high. Two pedals do everything: gas drives and, in the air, tips the nose up; brake slows, reverses and tips the nose down. That air control is the real skill. Land with the truck lined up to the slope and you keep every bit of speed; land on the back tyres or the nose and the suspension scrubs it off, and a hard nose-plant rolls the truck onto its roof and sends it back to the last flag. The cars are not scenery: drop onto a row from a kicker and they fold under the tyres, every car crushed adds a burst of crush boost, and a pile that collapses drags its neighbours down with it. The rivals are not scripted either. Each one drives the same physics you do with slower hands and a solved speed limit, so its lap time is a real lap, and finishing ahead of even one of them unlocks the next arena.

How to play Monster Truck

  1. Press Start Race and wait for the count from three. Your orange truck lines up with three rivals; their trucks run in the far lane, so nobody blocks anybody.
  2. Hold GAS (the right pedal, the right arrow or D) to drive. Hold BRAKE (the left pedal, the left arrow or A) to slow down; keep holding it once you have stopped to reverse.
  3. Off the ground the same two pedals turn the truck: GAS tips the nose up, BRAKE tips it down. Use them to match the slope you are about to land on.
  4. A landing within about 11 degrees of the slope is clean and costs nothing. Further out than that the suspension scrubs speed off, and past about 69 degrees the truck plants its nose or its tail and rolls.
  5. Rows of junk cars sit behind gentle dirt kickers. Fly in and land on them to fold them flat: every car you crush adds 0.7 seconds of crush boost, up to 3 seconds, with more pull and a higher top speed.
  6. Mud pits drag at the tyres and pits leave you climbing out of a hole if you come up short, so carry speed into both.
  7. If the truck ends up on its roof it is put back on its wheels at the last yellow flag after a second. You can do the same yourself with Back to Flag or the R key if you get stuck.
  8. Finish ahead of at least one rival to unlock the next arena. A win is three stars, second place two, third place one.

Tips

  • Watch the slope where you will land, not the ramp you are leaving. A steep kicker throws the nose up, and a tap of brake in the air is what brings it back level for a flat landing.
  • Holding the gas through every jump is how a first race goes, and it is good enough to win the Dirt Oval. It finishes last in Junkyard Run, Night Stadium and Wreckers Ridge, because those arenas are where the landings start to cost.
  • Do not fight a wheelie with the gas held: the truck eases off by itself past about 35 degrees so it will not loop over, but it is slow up there. Lift off for a moment and the nose comes down.
  • Land on the cars rather than flying past them. The kickers in front of each row are shaped to drop a fast truck onto the roofs, and the boost from a crushed row is worth more than the hop you save by clearing it.
  • Two or three high stacks fold together: land on the first and the rest of the row slumps down within reach of your tyres, so you will not be left facing a wall of cars.
  • Iron Hog is the truck to beat. It finishes about 15 percent behind a perfect lap on the Dirt Oval and only 5 percent behind one on the Monster Finale, so the last arenas need every landing clean.
  • Stuck in a pit or wedged against a pile? Back to Flag costs you a second; sitting there costs you the race.

FAQ

Is Monster Truck free to play?

Yes. All eight arenas are free to play in your browser with no download, no account and nothing to buy. Your unlocked arenas, stars and best lap times are saved in your own browser.

Does this monster truck game work on a phone?

Yes. Two large on-screen pedals sit in the bottom corners of the arena — brake on the left, gas on the right — and you can hold both at once. It plays best with the phone turned sideways, and the view always shows at least 25 metres of track so the next ramp is never off the screen.

How do you win a race?

Finish ahead of the three rival trucks. Every truck races the same course with the same physics, the rivals just drive it with slower hands and a speed limit of their own. First place earns three stars, second two and third one, and finishing ahead of at least one rival unlocks the next arena.

How do you crush cars in Monster Truck?

Land on them. A monster truck folds a car under its own weight, but slowly; landing on a row from the dirt kicker in front of it folds the cars at once. Every car crushed gives 0.7 seconds of crush boost, up to 3 seconds, and when one stack collapses its neighbours slump down with it, so a well-placed landing can flatten half a row.

Why does my truck slow down when it lands?

Because it landed crooked. A landing within about 11 degrees of the slope under the truck keeps all its speed. Land on the back tyres or the nose and the suspension scrubs speed off in proportion to how far out you were, and past about 69 degrees the truck rolls and goes back to the last flag. In the air, gas tips the nose up and brake tips it down — use them to line up.

Are the rival trucks set to a fixed time?

No. Each rival really drives the course on the same physics you do, deciding a little less often than a perfect driver and never going past its own speed limit. That limit was solved for each arena so the rival finishes a set margin behind the fastest of sixteen reference drivers: Iron Hog about 15 percent behind on the first arena and 5 percent on the last, Mud Dog and Rust Bucket further back.

Can every arena be finished?

Yes. A reference driver that never goes faster than 11 metres a second finishes all eight arenas without once rolling the truck. Falling short of a jump costs time, never the race: every pit has a wall you can drive out of.

How is this different from the Off-Road Truck game?

Off-Road Truck is a slow rock crawl where the crates on the flatbed are the score and speed is the enemy. Monster Truck is the opposite: a flat-out race against three trucks where speed, big air and clean landings win, and the obstacles are rows of cars you are meant to drive over and crush.

Is this the official Monster Jam game?

No. This is an independent free browser game about monster truck racing in general. It is not affiliated with Monster Jam or any truck, team or event, and every truck in it is our own.
