Heel Run is a free online lane-running game that runs in the browser with no download and no sign-up. Running happens by itself. What you manage is a number: the height of the heel you are wearing. Shoe racks swap you into something taller or shorter depending on which lane you take, and gates only let a particular heel through — a puddle you can only cross on a tall heel, a low beam you can only duck under on a flat one. So a lane change is never just a dodge. Eight distance flags mark how far down the runway you got.

How to play Heel Run

  1. Tap a lane pad, or press the left and right arrows, to move between the three lanes. Running is automatic.
  2. Orange racks raise your heel and blue racks lower it. The number on each one is exactly how much it changes.
  3. Gates show a condition — ≥ 5 means a heel of at least five, ≤ 2 means at most two. A gate lane is drawn green when your current heel passes it.
  4. Your heel height is shown in the header and drawn on the runner, so you can read it off the shoe as well as the number.
  5. Hitting a gate your heel cannot pass ends the run. Nothing else can hurt you.
  6. There are always two racks between one gate and the next, and at least one of those rack lanes puts you in a shoe the gate accepts.
  7. The run gets faster with distance. Eight flags mark the milestones along the way.

Tips

  • Read the gate before you reach the rack, not after. The gate is drawn well ahead, and the rack in front of it is the only chance you get to change shoe.
  • The green colouring already answers the question at the gate itself. The lane you actually have to think about is the rack lane two rows earlier.
  • Do not chase the extremes. A heel near the middle of the range can usually reach either kind of gate with a single rack, while a maxed-out heel can only come down.
  • A zero rack is a real option. Sometimes the shoe you already have passes the next gate and swapping just moves you away from it.
  • When two gates come in quick succession, plan for the second one. The first is usually satisfiable from several shoes and the second is not.
  • Later gates sit exactly on the tightest heel the rack can still reach, so on a long run the correct rack lane becomes the only rack lane.
  • Speed rises with distance but never past the point where there is time to read a row — every flag was checked against a reaction budget.

FAQ

Is Heel Run free to play?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no account and nothing to buy. Your best distance is saved in the browser so the flags stay unlocked.

What does the heel number actually do?

It is the only stat in the game. Gates test it directly — some need a heel above a number and some below one — and racks are the only way to change it. Nothing else about the runner varies.

Can I get stuck with a heel that cannot pass anything?

No. The track is generated by carrying forward the set of heels a player could be wearing, and a gate is only written if every one of those heels can reach a passing shoe through one lane of the rack before it.

Why did I crash when a lane looked open?

Gate lanes are coloured against the heel you are wearing right now, so a lane drawn red is one your current shoe fails. If it turned red as you approached, a rack changed your heel after you picked the lane.

Does it get impossibly fast?

No. Speed rises with distance and then stops, and even at the cap the gap between rows stays above a reaction budget that the test suite checks. The pressure is real but the game never asks for the impossible.

How is this different from the other runners here?

Arcade Runner and Crowd Runner are about dodging what is in front of you. Here the obstacle in front of you was decided by a choice you made two rows back, so the reading happens earlier than the reacting.

Does Heel Run work on a phone?

Yes. The runway is drawn tall for a portrait screen and the three lane pads sit across the bottom under your thumbs.
