Curve Dash is a free online curve racing game: a glowing dot races up a winding lane and never stops, and the only thing you control is which way it turns. Hold left or right and it curves round a circle three metres across; let go and it runs straight. It leaves a trail as solid as the kerbs, so spinning on the spot ties a knot and ends the run. Twelve stages bring narrow lanes, hairpins, pegs, gate bars with one gap, an open field, fog and a speed-up stage, each course getting faster as you go. Every course is checked before you see it: there is always a line through. Play with the arrow keys or by holding either half of the screen — no download, no sign-up.
How to play Curve Dash
- Pick a stage and press Start, Space, or tap the course. The dot sets off up the lane at once and never stops.
- Hold the left or right arrow key (or A and D) to curve that way; let go and the dot runs straight. On a phone or tablet, hold the left or right half of the course.
- Every curve is the same size whatever the speed: holding a direction turns the dot round a circle three metres across. A long hold is a sharp turn, a quick tap a small nudge.
- Stay inside the lane. Touching a kerb, a pink peg, an orange block, a violet gate bar or your own glowing trail ends the run where you are.
- Pick up the blue gems along the course: each is worth 10 points, on top of one point for every metre you make.
- Reach the chequered finish line to clear the stage and unlock the next one. A higher score earns the second and third stars.
- The dot gets faster over the first 18 to 25 seconds of every run. Later stages add narrows, hairpins, gates, an open field of pegs and blocks, and fog that hides the course ahead. Switching to another tab pauses the run.
Tips
- Tap, do not hold. Most of a lane needs only small nudges; a long hold is for the real bends.
- Start a turn before the bend, not in it. The dot keeps going the way it points while you react.
- Aim for the middle of the lane, so a turn that runs a little long still has room.
- Gates show their gap early. Line up with it well before the bar and go through straight.
- In fog, keep your turns short: anything can appear at the edge of your light, and a dot already curving hard has nowhere left to go.
- Never hold one way for long. A full circle crosses your own trail, and the trail is as solid as a wall.
- The gems lie on a good line through the course. Following them is usually the safe way as well as the high-scoring one.
FAQ
Is Curve Dash free to play?
Yes. Curve Dash is free to play online in your browser, with no download, no account and nothing to buy. All twelve stages are here and unlock in order.
How do I steer?
Hold the left or right arrow key, or A and D, to curve that way, and let go to run straight. On a phone or tablet, hold the left or right half of the course. If you hold both, the one you pressed last wins. Space starts and pauses the run.
Why can’t I just slide sideways?
Because the dot only has a heading. Like a car, it cannot move sideways — it can only turn, and every turn is a circle of the same size, three metres across, at any speed. That is the whole skill: deciding when to start a turn and when to straighten out.
How does scoring work?
You get one point for every metre you make up the course and 10 points for each gem you pick up. Reaching the finish line earns one star; the second and third stars need a higher score, which means picking up more of the gems. Every course of a stage has the same number of gems.
Is every course possible?
Yes. Each course is built around a hidden line first, one that never bends tighter than the dot can turn, and the kerbs and every peg, block and gate bar keep at least half a metre clear of it. The tests then drive that line through the game itself to the finish on 41 courses of every stage.
Can I win by holding one way, or by doing nothing?
No. Running straight meets the first bend, and holding one way circles straight into your own trail. On every stage, a player who does nothing, holds left, holds right or presses at random without looking never reached the finish once in 41 runs.
How are the star scores set?
They are measured, not guessed. Three simulated players — a casual, a regular and a sharp one, each with a human reaction time and a slightly unsteady thumb — drive every stage 41 times. Two stars is the regular player’s middle score and three stars the sharp player’s.
Is the game the same whatever my screen’s frame rate?
Yes. The run is worked out on a fixed clock of 120 steps a second, and every key press and touch counts from the moment it happened, not from the next frame drawn. A 60 Hz phone and a 144 Hz monitor play exactly the same run.
How is Curve Dash different from Rolling Ball Dash or Snake?
In Rolling Ball Dash you choose where across the track the ball is. In Snake you turn on a grid, a quarter turn at a time. In Curve Dash the dot turns smoothly and only turns, so you steer by heading — and its trail is a wall of its own.
Does Curve Dash work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Hold the left or right half of the course with your thumbs to curve. The tall course fits a phone held upright, and it plays sideways too.
