Waffle Word Grid is a free online word swap puzzle you can play instantly in your browser, no download and no account needed. Every level gives you a 5x5 waffle-shaped grid holding 6 interlocking 5-letter words, 3 across and 3 down — every single letter you need is already somewhere on the board, just scrambled into the wrong spot. Tap two tiles to swap them: green means a letter is locked into its correct spot, yellow means it belongs to that row or column but is sitting in the wrong cell, and gray means it does not belong to that word at all. Keep swapping until every tile turns green and the grid resolves into 6 real words at once. The genre's well-known 15-swap par is tracked for scoring, not as a hard cutoff, so you can always keep working a puzzle instead of hitting a dead end. There are 10 hand-built grids to work through, and New Layout reshuffles the current set of words into a fresh scramble any time you want another crack at it.

How to play Waffle Word Grid

1. Each level shows a 5x5 waffle-shaped grid of 21 letter tiles forming 3 across words and 3 down words that overlap at 9 shared cells.
2. Every letter you need is already somewhere on the board — your job is only to move them into the right cells.
3. Tap one tile, then tap a second tile to swap their letters. Each swap is tracked as one move.
4. After every swap, tiles update color: green means correct and locked in place, yellow means the letter belongs in that row or column but is in the wrong cell, gray means it does not belong there at all.
5. Green tiles lock — you cannot select or swap them again — so keep working the yellow and gray tiles until the whole grid turns green.
6. Solving in fewer swaps than the 15-swap par scores higher, but there is no hard swap limit — you can always keep going until you solve it.

Tips

• Fix intersection cells (where an across word and a down word cross) first when you can — locking one green tile there often reveals what its neighbor in the other direction should be.
• A yellow tile only tells you it belongs somewhere in that specific row or column, not which exact cell, so try the most obvious open spot first rather than guessing randomly.
• Work one word at a time rather than jumping around the whole grid — once 4 of a word's 5 letters are green, the last one is usually forced.
• If you get stuck, New Layout reshuffles the same 6 words into a fresh scramble, which is a good way to practice a puzzle you have not fully cracked yet.
