Plane Strike is a free online vertical scrolling shooter with one rule that changes everything: your plane flies at a fixed altitude and only moves left and right. Take the vertical axis away and dodging stops being about finding a gap somewhere on the screen and becomes about reading the pattern a formation is laying down, because every enemy shot is a single point on your line at a single moment. Waves are written out rather than generated, so a level is learnable rather than merely survivable, and each one is checked to be dodgeable from any starting position — carrying forward the set of places that are still safe and requiring it never to empty. Your guns fire by themselves, so the only input is where you are. Six sorties, three planes, and a quota of enemies to bring down: surviving is not enough.

How to play Plane Strike

  1. Drag anywhere on the screen to fly, or use the left and right arrow keys. Your plane holds its altitude — there is no up or down.
  2. Your guns fire by themselves, so the only thing you control is where you are.
  3. Enemy formations descend in waves. Each level has three, and each wave always flies the same shape, so it can be learned.
  4. Enemy shots fall straight down. Because you cannot climb, dodging means being somewhere else along your line by the time one arrives.
  5. Enemies stop firing once they have closed right in, so a plane on top of you is a target rather than a threat.
  6. Tougher enemies show a number: that is how many hits they still need.
  7. You have three planes. A hit costs one and gives you a moment of blinking invulnerability afterwards.
  8. Bringing down the level quota clears the sortie. Letting the waves fly past without shooting them is a loss, however cleanly you dodged.
  9. Finishing without losing a plane is three stars.

Tips

  • Read the formation, not the last bullet. Because everything arrives on one line, the pattern tells you where to be several shots ahead.
  • Aim at the enemy nearest you sideways rather than the one lowest down. Chasing whatever is closest to your altitude walks you straight under the guns.
  • Move early and small. Long sprints across the screen are what get you caught between two shots.
  • A vee fires from the outside in, so the middle is usually the last place to become dangerous.
  • Swaying formations on the later levels can reach the walls, so the edges are not the safe parking spot they look like.
  • The moment after a hit is free — the blinking is real invulnerability, and it is the best time to take a target you have been avoiding.
  • Kill the tough ones early. A two- or three-hit enemy that survives the whole wave fires four or five times.
  • The quota is always well under the number of enemies that come through, so you can afford to let a few past while you clear a dangerous one.

FAQ

Is Plane Strike free to play?

Yes. It runs in the browser with no download, no sign-up and nothing to buy. All six sorties are included and unlock as you clear them.

How is this different from Galaxy Blaster here?

Galaxy Blaster is a free arena — the ship moves in two axes and dodging is about finding a gap anywhere on the screen. Here the altitude is fixed, so every incoming shot is one point on one line at one moment and the game becomes reading the pattern rather than reacting to it.

Why can I not fly up and down?

Because that constraint is the game. It makes each wave a rhythm to be read rather than a cloud to be threaded, and it is what lets every wave be checked as genuinely dodgeable before it ships.

Are the waves always survivable?

Yes, and it is proved rather than hoped. Because the plane is confined to a line, the set of positions that are still safe can be carried forward exactly: it widens by how far the plane can fly between two arrivals and has each incoming shot cut out of it. A wave whose safe set empties is rejected, and the check runs on every wave at less than full flying speed so the margin is real.

Why do enemies stop shooting when they get close?

Because a shot released right on top of you arrives before the plane can move anywhere, and there is no honest answer to it when you cannot climb. Enemies commit to their pass once they have closed in.

Do I have to press a fire button?

No. The guns fire on their own. A fixed-altitude shooter that also wants a button is asking two hands to do a thumb's job.

Why did I lose when I never got hit?

You did not down enough of them. Each level has a quota, because without one you could win by dodging everything and firing nothing — which measured, on a bot, as clearing a level having destroyed two enemies out of fourteen.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, and it suits one: the field is portrait, the guns are automatic, and your finger anywhere on the screen places the plane directly.
