Penguin Launch is a free online bounce and distance game that runs in the browser with no download and no sign-up. A run is three decisions long: stop the angle meter, stop the power meter, and then choose when to burn a boost tank that empties in about a second and never refills. Everything after that is the hills — a bounce that lands on a downslope throws you forward, one that lands on an upslope ends the run. Coins from every metre buy launch power, a bigger tank and bouncier landings, and eight flags mark how far down the ice you have got.
How to play Penguin Launch
- Tap or press space once to stop the sweeping angle needle. A middling angle carries further than a very flat or very steep one.
- Tap again to stop the power bar. A full bar is almost always what you want on the launch itself.
- In the air, hold the button to burn boost. The tank holds about a second and does not refill during the run.
- Boost pushes along the direction you are already flying, so holding it while climbing lengthens the arc and holding it while falling just drives you into the hill.
- When the penguin hits the ground it bounces. Landing on a downslope keeps most of the speed; landing on an upslope kills it.
- The run ends when the penguin is too slow to keep going. Every eight metres pays a coin.
- Spend coins on Launch, Tank and Bounce between runs, and push past the coloured flags planted along the ice.
Tips
- Save the whole tank for the top of the first arc. Burning it on the way down is the single most common way to end a run early.
- Read the hills ahead rather than the penguin. What decides a long run is which slope you are about to land on, and you can see that coming a second in advance.
- Bounce is the cheapest upgrade to feel. Once landings keep most of their speed, a run stops being one long arc and becomes five or six skimming hops.
- A slightly flatter launch beats a high one once you have any Bounce at all — a low arc reaches the hill sooner and turns into skips rather than a single drop.
- Do not stockpile coins. Every level of every upgrade makes the next run pay more, so spending immediately compounds faster than saving for the expensive tiers.
- Each launch generates a new set of hills, so a bad run is genuinely bad luck as well as bad timing — the flags are cumulative bests, not a per-run pass mark.
- The flag distances were set from measured runs at the upgrade level you would plausibly hold by then, so if a flag feels impossible you are usually one upgrade short rather than mistimed.
FAQ
Is Penguin Launch free to play?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no download, no account and nothing to buy. Coins are earned by flying, and there is nothing to purchase with real money.
When should I use the boost?
While you are still climbing or level, near the top of the arc. Boost pushes along your current flight direction, so spending it on the way down converts your one tank into a shorter flight rather than a longer one.
Why do some bounces carry me miles and others stop me dead?
The ground reflects you off its own slope. A landing on a downslope keeps far more of your speed and throws you forward; an upslope turns your speed into a climb you cannot pay for. Aiming at the far side of a hill is the core skill.
Which upgrade should I buy first?
Bounce changes how a run feels most for the money, because it turns a single long arc into a series of skips. Launch is the most reliable raw distance, and Tank matters more once you can already reach the flatter ground further out.
Is the ice the same every time?
No. Each launch generates a new hill profile, so the same angle and power will not repeat the same run. The flags are distance records rather than fixed courses.
Do I lose my upgrades?
No. Coins, upgrades and your best distance are saved in your browser, so you can close the page and carry on later on the same device.
Does Penguin Launch work on a phone?
Yes. The whole game is one button — tap to lock each meter and hold to boost — so it plays the same with a thumb as with a keyboard.
