Brain Trick is a free online tricky puzzle game of twenty hand-made levels, each a small picture and a one-line question with a catch. The answer is rarely the button that looks like an answer. Sometimes you drag something out of the way, sometimes you press and hold, rub, or shake a tree from side to side, and three times the thing you need is not in the picture at all but a word in the question, which you can tap or drag out like any other object. One level is won by not touching anything. Every level has one intended trick, and a wrong answer only costs you a star, never the level: solve it cleanly for three stars, after one or two slips for two, and after a run of mistakes for one. If you are stuck, the Hint button nudges you the right way, and pressing it again shows the answer, at a star each. There is no clock to beat and nothing is random, so a level plays the same way every time and your stars are saved in the browser. It is a brain teaser game in the style of the phone trick-puzzle apps, playable here with no download on a computer, tablet or phone, with a mouse, a finger or the keyboard.
How to play Brain Trick
- Press Play. Each level shows a picture and a question at the top, such as "Make it night" or "Find the cat".
- Tap anything in the picture to try it. A wrong answer is marked with a red cross and costs a star; a tap on scenery costs nothing, and sometimes earns a comment that points you somewhere.
- Drag things around. Anything that can move follows your finger or the mouse, and something useful may be hiding underneath it.
- Press and hold, rub back and forth, or drag quickly from side to side to shake. Each of those is the answer to at least one level.
- Read the question closely. Its words are part of the puzzle: you can tap them, and you can drag them out and drop them into the picture.
- Stuck? Press Hint for a nudge. Press it again for the answer. Each costs a star on that level, and a wrong answer never ends the level.
- Solve a level to unlock the next. Three stars for a clean solve, two after one or two mistakes or the hint, one otherwise. Replay any level to improve it.
- On a keyboard, Tab to a thing and press Enter to tap it, hold Enter to hold it, and use the arrow keys to move, shake or rub it.
Tips
- Before you tap anything, ask what the question would mean if you took it literally. "The biggest number" and "the highest number" are not always the same thing.
- If the picture seems to be missing what you need, look at the question. The one level with no pin in the picture still has a pin on the screen.
- Things that look fixed in place often are not. Try dragging mats, cloths, bushes and clouds before you decide something is not there.
- A comment instead of a red cross means you are touching the right sort of thing in the wrong way. Try holding it, rubbing it or shaking it instead.
- Wrong answers only cost stars, so when you are really stuck an experiment is cheaper than the answer button.
- Take the hint before the answer. The hint only points; the answer spells it out, and it costs a second star.
- Some levels have more than one step. If something changed after your last move, the level is probably not over yet — look again.
- Every level is the same each time you play it, so a two-star level can be replayed for three once you know the trick.
FAQ
Is Brain Trick free to play?
Yes. It is free in your browser, with no download, no account and nothing to buy, on a computer, tablet or phone.
How many levels are there?
Twenty, each built by hand around its own trick. Solving one unlocks the next, and every level can be replayed from the level picker.
Is it just about tapping the right answer?
No. Only some levels are solved by a tap. Others need you to drag something, press and hold, rub, shake a tree, or wait, and three are solved with a word from the question itself. Tapping everything on the screen never earns three stars on any level.
Can I tap or drag the words in the question?
Yes, on every level. Most of the time it does nothing, which is exactly why it works as a trick on the levels where it is the answer.
What happens if I get it wrong?
Nothing is lost except a star. A wrong answer is marked with a red cross, the level carries on, and there are no lives, no timer and no game over.
How do the stars work?
Three stars for solving a level with no mistakes and no hint. One or two mistakes, or using the hint, gives two. Three or more mistakes, or asking for the answer, gives one. Your best is kept for every level.
What if I cannot solve a level?
Press Hint for a nudge in the right direction, and press it again to be shown the answer. Both are always available, so you can never get permanently stuck.
Is this like Brain Out or Brain Test?
It is the same kind of game — short trick puzzles that reward thinking sideways — but it is not affiliated with either, and all twenty levels here were written for this game.
Can I play it with a keyboard?
Mostly. Tab moves between things in the picture and the words of the question, Enter taps, holding Enter holds, and the arrow keys move, shake or rub. Dragging a word into the picture needs a mouse or a finger.
