Balance Scale Puzzle is a free online weight logic game you can play instantly in the browser, with no download and no account. Every level opens with a short list of readings — two circles balance a triangle, three triangles balance a star — and a big scale with something already sitting on its left pan. Your job is to fill the right pan from the tray until the beam sits level. The catch that turns it from fiddling into reasoning is that the tray never offers the shapes on the left pan, so copying what you can see is impossible; the readings are the only route to the answer. Nothing here needs arithmetic beyond counting, and no number is ever shown — a scale only ever tells you that one pile matches another, which is exactly the kind of relative reasoning these puzzles are built from. The beam leans live toward the heavier side while you work, so a wrong pile tells you which way you are out, and the move counter and par rating are what reward reading the clues over piling shapes on and hoping. Twelve levels grow from three shapes and one reading up to six shapes and a chain of readings you have to follow through several steps. There is no timer anywhere.

How to play Balance Scale Puzzle

  1. The panel of small scales shows readings you can trust: each one is already balanced, so the shapes on its left weigh exactly the same as the shapes on its right.
  2. The big scale has shapes on its left pan and an empty pan on the right. Getting the beam level is the whole goal.
  3. Tap a shape in the tray to drop one onto the right pan. Tap a shape already in the right pan to take it back off.
  4. The tray never offers you the shapes sitting on the left pan, so you cannot simply mirror what you see — the readings are the only way through.
  5. Watch the beam. It leans toward the heavier side while you work, so an unbalanced pan still tells you whether you are over or under.
  6. The level finishes by itself the moment the two pans match. There is no submit button and no way to lock in a wrong answer.
  7. Every move counts — adding a shape or removing one. Par is the smallest number of shapes that balances the pan, and matching it earns three stars.
  8. Hint puts on (or takes off) exactly one shape, working from wherever you actually are rather than from one fixed solution. Empty Pan clears the right pan in one go.
  9. New Puzzle keeps the level and deals a fresh set of shapes, weights and readings.

Tips

  • Start with the shortest reading. One that says a single shape balances two of another gives you a ratio straight away, and every longer reading gets easier once you have one.
  • Pick a shape and call it one unit, then measure everything else against it. Scales only ever tell you how shapes compare, so choosing your own unit costs nothing and makes the chain much easier to hold in your head.
  • Work out the left pan first. Once you know what it is worth in units, the right pan becomes a small counting problem rather than a search.
  • If a reading has a shape on both sides in your head, you have misread it — a reading here never repeats a shape across the beam, so each one really is a clean comparison.
  • The lean tells you direction but not distance. A pan that is one unit light and one that is ten units light look similar, so use it to confirm a deduction rather than to steer by feel.
  • Heavier shapes first. Getting within a shape or two of the target with the big pieces leaves a small remainder that the light shapes can finish exactly.
  • On the later levels the readings form a chain rather than a list — one links shape A to B, the next B to C — so follow them in order rather than trying to read them all at once.
  • Stuck on a stubborn board? New Puzzle re-rolls the same level with different weights, and it is often a friendlier set of ratios.

Do I need to be good at maths to play?

No. There is no arithmetic beyond counting and no number appears anywhere in the game. Every clue is a picture of a balanced scale, and the reasoning is comparing piles rather than calculating with them — which is why it suits children and adults equally.

How do I work out what the shapes weigh?

You do not need their actual weights, only how they compare. Pick any shape, treat it as one unit, and use the balanced readings to express every other shape in those units. A scale can never tell you more than that, and it is always enough to solve the level.

Is every puzzle actually solvable?

Yes, and both halves of that are checked before a board is handed to you. The readings are only accepted once they pin the shapes down to a single set of ratios, so there is never a guess left at the end, and every target is one the tray can reach with a handful of shapes. Redundant readings are dropped too, so nothing on screen is padding.

Why can I not just copy the shapes on the left pan?

Because the tray deliberately never contains them. If it did, every level would have the same trivial answer and the readings would be decoration. Keeping the two sets apart is what forces you to convert one shape into another.

Is there a time limit?

None at all. Nothing is timed, nothing runs out and there is no fail state — you can leave a level half-solved and come back to it. The only score is the number of moves you used against par.

What does par mean and how do I get three stars?

Par is the fewest shapes that will balance the pan. Three stars means you got there in that many moves, which in practice means you worked the answer out before touching the tray rather than adding and removing until it fit.

Does Balance Scale Puzzle work on a phone?

Yes. Everything is tap-based, and on a narrow screen the readings move above the scale instead of beside it so both stay visible while you play.
