Ant Smasher is a free online bug smasher game set on a sunny picnic table. Ants, fire ants, beetles and cockroaches march in from every edge toward the cupcake in the middle, and you squash them with a tap before they take a bite. Every bug plays differently: fire ants are fast, beetles get angry and speed up after the first hit, and cockroaches play dead before sprinting away. Let a few bugs bunch up and one tap smashes them all for double, triple or five times the points — but slap a spider and you lose a heart. Play ten Classic levels with a Beetle King boss and an Endless mode after it, a 60-second Time Attack, or Target Hunt, a race to 500 points. It runs in your browser on phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no sign-up.

How to play Ant Smasher

  1. Press Play to start Classic at level 1, or pick a mode: Classic (three hearts, ten levels and then Endless), Time Attack (60 seconds) or Target Hunt (reach 500 points as fast as you can).
  2. Bugs walk in from the edges of the table toward the cupcake in the middle. Tap a bug to squash it before it gets there. A tap reaches a little past the bug’s body, so you do not need to hit it dead centre.
  3. Learn the bugs. A Worker Ant takes one tap and is worth 10 points. A Fire Ant also takes one tap but runs half again as fast, for 20. A Beetle takes two taps for 30, and the first tap makes it angry and faster. A Cockroach takes three taps for 50: after the first it lies still for half a second, playing dead, then sprints.
  4. Never tap a spider. Spiders cross the table without touching the cupcake, and touching one costs a heart in Classic or 50 points in the timed modes. A dashed purple ring and a red “!” mark every spider.
  5. Smash several bugs with one tap for a multiplier on all of them: two bugs pay ×2, three pay ×3 and four or more pay ×5.
  6. In Classic you have three hearts. Each bug that reaches the cupcake takes a bite and a heart; lose all three and the run is over. Squash enough bugs to clear the level — the bar under your hearts fills as you go — and the next level gives one heart back.
  7. Clear a whole wave of bugs without a single bite to earn a Freeze (you can hold two). Tap the snowflake button or press Space and every bug stops for 3 seconds, while you can still squash them.
  8. Level 10 ends with the Beetle King: ten taps to topple, faster with every hit, and once he reaches the cupcake he keeps biting every 2.5 seconds until you squash him. After level 10, Endless mode adds five more bugs every level and a stronger king every tenth level.
  9. Stars: three for clearing a level without losing a heart, two for losing one, one for any clear. Your best score, best stars, fastest Target Hunt and unlocked levels are saved in your browser. P or Escape pauses, and the game pauses itself if you switch tabs.

Tips

  • Fast bugs first. A Fire Ant or a sprinting cockroach reaches the cupcake long before a Worker Ant that started at the same time, so deal with the quick ones and come back for the slow ones.
  • Every bug walks straight at the cupcake, so bugs from the same side drift together as they get close. If nothing is about to bite, wait half a second and take two or three in one tap for ×2 or ×3.
  • Watch the red rings. A bug about to bite glows red underneath and the cupcake flashes — that is the one to tap now, whatever else is on the table.
  • Do not trust a still cockroach. One that has been hit and lies on its back is playing dead; tap it again while it lies still, because when it gets up it runs faster.
  • Hit beetles twice in a row. An angry beetle is faster than a fresh one, so once you have cracked its shell, finish it before moving on.
  • Keep your taps away from spiders even when an ant walks right past one. Tap on the far side of the ant instead — the slap reaches past the bug, so you can hit it without touching the spider.
  • Save Freeze for a pile-up. Three or four bugs closing in at once, or the Beetle King on the cupcake, is where 3 seconds of stillness saves a heart — and frozen bugs can be squashed in a crowd for a big multiplier.
  • A level is cleared by squashed bugs, not by time, so a flawless clear also earns a 100-point bonus on top of the level bonus. In Time Attack, clearing the table quickly brings the next bugs sooner — speed is what raises your score.

FAQ

How do you play Ant Smasher?

Tap the bugs to squash them before they reach the cupcake in the middle of the table. Ants take one tap, beetles two and cockroaches three. Do not tap spiders, and try to smash several bugs at once for bonus points.

What happens if a bug reaches the food?

It takes a bite out of the cupcake and is gone. In Classic each bite costs one of your three hearts, and the run ends when all three are lost. In Time Attack and Target Hunt there are no hearts — a bite costs 20 points instead.

Which bug gives the most points?

The Beetle King is worth 200, but he only appears at the end of level 10 and every tenth level after it. Among the regular bugs the Cockroach pays 50, the Beetle 30, the Fire Ant 20 and the Worker Ant 10. Squashing two, three or four or more bugs in one tap multiplies their points by 2, 3 or 5.

What does the Freeze power-up do?

It stops every bug on the table for 3 seconds, and frozen bugs can still be squashed. You earn one Freeze for every wave of bugs you clear without a single bite, and you can hold up to two. Use it with the snowflake button or the Space key.

How many levels are there in Ant Smasher?

Classic has ten levels, each adding a new bug or more speed, and level 10 ends with a Beetle King boss. Clear it and Endless mode opens: five more bugs every level, faster each time, and another Beetle King with more hit points every tenth level.

Can I play Ant Smasher on my phone?

Yes. Ant Smasher is built for touch and fits an upright phone screen as well as a tablet or a computer with a mouse. Every finger counts as its own tap, so you can smash with two thumbs at once.

Is Ant Smasher free to play?

Yes. It is free to play online in your browser, with no download and nothing to buy. There are no coins, upgrades or in-game purchases — your score comes only from how well you play.

Do I need an account to play?

No. There is no sign-up. Your best scores, stars and unlocked levels are saved in your own browser on the device you play on, and nothing is sent anywhere.

What is the best strategy for a high score?

Squash the fastest and closest bugs first so nothing bites, then use the quiet moments to let bugs bunch up near the cupcake and take them several at a time for ×2, ×3 or ×5. Keep clear of spiders, finish angry beetles and playing-dead cockroaches straight away, and save Freeze for when three or more bugs arrive together.

What is the difference between Classic, Time Attack and Target Hunt?

Classic is a run of levels with three hearts: clear ten levels, beat the Beetle King and keep going in Endless. Time Attack gives you 60 seconds to score as much as you can while the bugs get faster. Target Hunt is a race to 500 points against the clock. In the two timed modes there are no hearts, so a bite or a spider costs points instead.

Is this the official Ant Smasher app?

No. This Ant Smasher is an original browser game made for WebGamePlus, with its own picnic art, bugs and modes, inspired by the classic tap-the-ants genre. It is not affiliated with any mobile app of the same name.

Is Ant Smasher OK for kids?

The bugs are friendly cartoons with big eyes, and a squashed bug leaves a bright splat of coloured goo — no realistic insects and no gore. The rules are simple enough for young players, and the later levels and Endless mode are fast enough to challenge adults.
